Hi Nicola, congrats for making the big step of taking a year out with the family. You are definitely making a great choice and I will certainly think about it myself when the twins are a bit bigger! Live for the now. The only tip I’ve got (if it isnt too late) is to try Chris Milano’s foodie tour when in San Francisco – we went to the Latin Quarter with him and tried some stuff that we wouldn’t ordinarly have, in a neighbourhood we probably wouldn’t have been brave enough to venture to. He is great fun too and the boys would definitely think it was fun. Getting a night time ticket for ‘the rock’ is also worth it as its a bit creepier which again the boys would probably like and is really interesting. Book your tickets about 2 weeks in advance of getting there to make sure you can get them as they sell out. Take care!! Lots of Love from Alex, me (Genna) and the twins (Sam and Finn). . I love the sound of the foodie tour – if the kids aren’t interested I’d go on my own! but I’m sure they will be. First up Nicola, I think what you guys are planning is absolutely amazing. I wish I was brave enough.
I’ve been to quite a few of your places – ones I loved are NZ (all of it) Boston, Thailand and Washington DC. I’ve also been to the Cook Islands, though about 20 years ago. It’s not a busy place and I can’t imagine its changed much. My lasting memory of the place was cycling to what the locals called the ‘best beach’ and nobody, absolutely nobody being there. No Stalls, tourists, locals – just me, myself and I. Quite a strange experience.

How wonderful to plan and fulfil a lifetime dream.
Philadelphia … Please touch museum, kids will love it, lots of real play. Also Franklin Insitute but more science orientated. We also enjoyed parts of Amish territory, bird in hand village and local Life museum but this is an hour plus outside philadelphia.
San Diego … Sea world if into that sort of thing! Seaport village, especially good California rolls here (sushi).
In phoenix we ate at us egg, not sure if they outside arizona but amazing brunch.

Hi Emma, thanks for stopping by and for the great suggestions – yes the Please Touch Museum is top of our list for Philadelphia. Our boys have spent many weekends at the Science and Natural History Museums in London with Nick, whilst I’ve been teaching in Kensington and they’ve always had such a great time; museums are so much better than they used to be 🙂

WOW Nicola a very exciting year ahead xxx we’ve been living in Oz for 18months now, and although we often get a “little” homesick, we’d never come back to England – with 10 months of summer and the “rest of the world” virtually on our doorstep! We’ve just holidayed in Sydney, and I’m sure you’ll have an amazing time there (although I guess your visit might be a little different to ours – we were definitely tourists and visited Toronga Zoo and Luna Park) but Sydney Harbour is amazing, as is whale watching outside the harbour xxx looking forward to hearing all about your adventures xxx Lots of love Karen (Jelf) xxx

The last few weeks before leaving were crazy busy but now that the jet lag is wearing off I have finally got a bit more time :-). We haven’t finalised the Australia route yet – I think we will be there for approximately a month so fingers crossed there will be time to get to Melbourne. Xx

Hi Paul, mum says hi! Yes, we made it to Manly for Boxing Day and will be staying in the Northern beaches areas at the end of the month – it is very beautiful and we are all enjoying the sea – even mum’s been in!
